INDIA

  • The Supreme court on Friday declined to entertain a writ petition seeking an independent audit of the source code governing the entire Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) System.

Appearing before a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud, advocate Sunil Ahya, who was the petitioner-in-person, said the source code was the “brain of an electronic machine”

Mr. Ahay submitted that the independent audit should be undertaken by applying the IEEE 1028 standard.

IEEE 1028 Standard

It is a well-established standard for software reviews and audits fixed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the World’s largest technical professional organisation.

  • A Parliamentary panel has observed that the provision of 100-metre prohibited area and 300-metre regulated area around all monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has pitted the local community against these heritage structures in many places as they find it difficult to carry out necessary repair work of their residential spaces.

The prohibited and restricted area provision was introduced in 2010 through an amendment to the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act, 1958. It prohibits and regulates all activities like mining and construction around 100 metres and 300 metres.

BUSINESS

  • According to SBI, it had raised 10,000 crore at a coupon rate of 7.49% through the issue of infrastructure bonds.

The issue attracted an overwhelming response from investors with bids of ₹ 21.045.10 crore and was subscribed by more than 5 times against the base issue size of ₹ 4,000 crore.

With the current issuance, the total outstanding long-term bonds issued by the bank now stands at ₹ 39,718 crore.

  • TVS Industrial & Logistics Park (a part of TVS Mobility Group) is establishing a warehouse in Pillaipakkam, near Chennai, to support U.S.-based First Solar’s vertically-integrated, solar-manufacturing facility located adjacent to the proposed warehouse.
