INDIA
- The Hoysala temples at Belur, Halebid and Somanathapur in Karnataka were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites in a move that will bring global recognition with prospects of increase in international tourism to these places.
- The Hindu Group’s Chennai plant won Silver at the best in Print Asia Awards organized by WAN-IFRA at its Indian Printers Summit in Kochi Kerala.
The awards were presented in two categories–
(1) Newspapers with a circulation of fewer than one lakh copies and
(2)Newspapers with a circulation of more than one lakh copies.

- The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar to have three Vigyan Ratna, 25 Vigyan shri, 25 Vigyan Yuva-shanti Swarup Bhatnagar and three Vigyan Team awards.
The winners will be announced every year on May 11 (National Technology Day).
